1. Recent controversy over reports of cutbacks at UAF's primary research institute for Alaska Native languages drew the attention of state lawmakers this week.
2. The Fairbanks North Star Borough has the highest residential vacancy rate in the state. That should be good for renters, who may get more options and lower costs. But it isn’t that simple.
3. Alaska lawmakers are considering two bills that would eliminate the need to change our clocks twice a year. One calls for staying on Daylight Savings Time. The other would keep us on Standard Time.
4. University of Alaska staff have successfully voted to form a union. The Coalition of Alaska University Employees for Equity will be the UA system's largest union.
5. The federal government announced Wednesday that it’s giving Alaska about $109 million to help pay for replacing two old bridges on the Alaska Highway.
